10 Ways to support the Historical Society

There are many ways to support the Historical Society of Long Beach. Our success depends on community support for our programs and events. As a supporter of the Historical Society you can help us spread the word and promote our programs by sharing your resources, time, knowledge, and experience.

1. Make a financial contribution
By making a financial contribution of any amount you can help support the Historical Society in promoting, developing, exhibiting, and preserving Long Beach history. Supporters receive our newsletters, program and community updates, annual reports as well as other benefits. Your contribution to the Historical Society sustains our programs, which includes an extensive research collection that documents the people, places, and events of Long Beach’s past. Materials in our archives and photograph department constitute one of the richest documentations of the region’s history available anywhere. Open to the public, the archives offer an opportunity to study books, newspapers, ephemera, original maps, manuscripts, architectural drawings and public records. Your support is crucial to the success of the Historical Society in preserving the important history of Long Beach.
2. Become a Member of our Monthly Sustainer Fund
The Historical Society Monthly Sustainer Fund is an effective and convenient way to support the Historical Society by contributing a small amount each month while making a long-term investment in preserving the history of Long Beach. You can donate monthly through your credit card to reduce paper usage/waste. The Monthly Sustainer Fund is a simple way for you to multiply the impact of your charitable giving and be part of a select group of our most loyal members and donors who sustain our programs throughout the year. Additional benefits to joining the sustainer fund include having your name listed in the Historical Society newsletter, web site, and annual report as a member of the Monthly Sustainer Fund; eliminating frequent fundraising and membership renewal letters from the Historical Society; and helping us reduce fundraising costs. And, if you pledge $100 or more per month, you’ll become a Benefactor of the Historical Society and receive additional benefits including an annual donor reception. To become a member of the Historical Society Monthly Sustainer Fund please call Julie Bartolotto, Executive Director 562.424.2220.
3. Ask About Your Employer Matching Program
Increase the impact of your donation by participating in your employer's matching program, whereby your donation is matched at a designated amount by your employer. This way, you can double or even triple your gift! Check with your organization or company to find out if an employer's matching program is available.
4. Donate Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, Securities
Publicly traded stocks, securities, bonds and mutual fund donations are a convenient way to donate to the Historical Society. Call or email Julie Bartolotto, Executive Director at 562.424.2220 or julieb@historicalsocietylb.org for transfer instructions.
5. Nominate the Historical Society to Charity Giving Programs
For-profit organizations often have charity giving programs that donate to causes that their employees or members nominate. If you are a member or employee of a company or organization that has a charity-giving program, please consider nominating the Historical Society to become a recipient organization.
6. Organize a fundraising party for the Historical Society
Organizing and hosting a fundraising party for the Historical Society is a fun way to bring your friends and colleagues together to raise awareness about the Historical Society’s work and raise money for our programs. Invite your friends and tell them you are raising money for an organization that is preserving the history of Long Beach.
7. Make an In-Kind Donation
The Historical Society accepts in-kind donations such as food, beverages, printing services, media services, communications technologies, airline tickets, frequent flyer miles, and other goods/services. Donating in-kind goods and services is a unique marketing opportunity as we acknowledge your contribution in our special event promotional materials, newsletter, web site, and annual report in appreciation of your support.
